About the Founder

Experience Built Around Service, Systems, and Security

Layered Defense Group was founded by Marcus Lee, a United States Marine Corps veteran, systems engineer, and experienced church-security team member.

His background includes military operations, defense contracting, systems integration and testing, risk evaluation, cybersecurity coordination, and several years supporting church security. These experiences shape a practical approach to helping homeowners, families, churches, and businesses better understand and reduce risk.

Military and Church Security Experience

Marcus served for more than eight years in the United States Marine Corps, including service as a Joint Terminal Attack Controller. The role required situational awareness, disciplined planning, clear communication, and coordination across people, equipment, and complex operations.

He has also spent several years serving in church security, where protection must be balanced with hospitality and accessibility. That experience includes supporting access awareness, emergency procedures, volunteer coordination, communication, and the safety of children, families, staff, and visitors.

These environments reinforced the belief that effective security should be thoughtful, appropriate, and designed around the people it is intended to protect.

Systems Engineering and Defense Industry Experience

Following military service, Marcus continued working in technical and operational roles within the defense industry, including work for a leading global defense contractor.

His experience includes systems engineering, integration and testing, technical troubleshooting, verification and validation, risk identification, cybersecurity coordination, and multidisciplinary teamwork.

Marcus holds a Bachelor of Science in Engineering and has completed graduate-level study in systems engineering. He has also held security clearances up to the Top Secret level, reflecting experience in environments where discretion, accountability, and information protection are essential.

Systems engineering focuses on how people, technology, equipment, and procedures work together as a complete system. That perspective forms the foundation of the Layered Defense Group approach.

Why Layered Defense Group Was Created

Security guidance is often fragmented.

A camera company may focus on cameras. A locksmith may focus on locks. A cybersecurity provider may focus on technology. Each can provide valuable expertise, but clients are often left to determine how everything fits together.

Marcus created Layered Defense Group to help bridge those gaps.

The goal is to help clients:

  • Understand what they are protecting
  • Identify realistic vulnerabilities
  • Evaluate existing safeguards
  • Prioritize improvements
  • Avoid unnecessary purchases
  • Build a practical plan over time

The purpose is not to make clients fearful. It is to help them become more informed, prepared, and confident.

The Founder’s Commitment

Layered Defense Group is built around five commitments:

Integrity
Recommendations are based on the client’s needs, not pressure to purchase products.

Practicality
Plans should account for budget, property, lifestyle, comfort level, and long-term usability.

Clear Communication
Clients should understand what is recommended and why it matters.

Discretion
Personal, family, church, business, and property information should be handled carefully.

Service
The purpose of the business is to help people protect what matters and make better-informed decisions.
